Memphis Top 10 Sweet Spots

There is no shortage of sweet spots in Memphis. When trying to compile my top ten, I immediately started craving a few items from places on this list. Whether its cookies, or doughnuts, milkshakes, or macaroons the places on my list are spots if you are in town, you will not want to miss!! Though these are my top 10 they are in no particular order. You must visit them all!

Whimsy Cookie Company

Cue the selfish plug! Being one of the owners, I could rave about Whimsy for as long as you would let me. My heart and soul has gone into that little charming pink house on Poplar ave. Our sugar cookies are what we are known for, but you must also try at least one flavor of our Gooey line of cookies. (strawberry is my fav) Also, a must not miss is the chocolate chip cookie that, (Surprise! ) has an oreo stuffed inside.

Jerry’s Snow Cones

If it’s hot out, you can guarantee the line at Jerry’s will be wrapped around the building. The simple shaved ice, served out of the multi colored old retro gas station, has people flocking for spoon fulls of goodness. Make sure you get a supreme which is simply a regular snow cone with a chunk of frozen yogurt on top… amazing!

Muddy’s

With several location around the Memphis area, my personal fav is Muddy’s- The Grind House. I’t one part coffee shop, one part bakery. The coffee is as good as the cupcakes, however if there is a choice, always go for the cupcake ha! Their owner, Kat is adorable, and honestly was, and is such a great help when Laurie and I have a Memphis bakery question. It’s midtown location makes it an ideal spot for me to pop in for a meeting when needed. If its beautiful outside make sure you sit on the patio with the precious bulb lights.

17 Berkshire

This is one of our newer sweet spots in town and only that specializes in macaroons. With its Parisian feel, and beautiful decor I think it is a bright new spot in town. Located right in the heart of Overton Square, 17 Berkshire is a fun new place to pop in after a great meal.

Gibson’s Donuts

One of the older dessert spots on my list having opened in 1967, this family run business is a serious source of my diet cravings. Hands up for the night owls, because Gibson’s is also the only spot on my list open 24 hours. Thats right you want a donut at 4:00 am, you got it! Though the glazed is my fav, do not miss the blueberry cake, or maple bacon glazed.

La Michoacana

A little off the beaten path, this Summer Ave gem was once a hidden one, but those days are gone. Word is out that La Michoacana’s fruit based paletas are something to talk about. They also serve up some delicious  homemade ice cream, as well as there also equally amazing authentic Mexican savory dishes.

Levee Creamery

Named for it’s location on Houston Levee this new sweet spot is just the right place to pop in, and hang out. Much needed in the area, the owners have marketed the half coffee/ half dessert menu to students, families, and the community as a place where you can come to spend a little time before school, or for a quick work meeting. They’ve even named some of their desserts after high schools in the area. They hand make their own waffle cones, and have safe-to-eat cookie dough.

Arcade Restaurant

If you’re looking for that overall Memphis experience this would be my recommendation. Though this diner is knows for its breakfast, the most famous of those breakfast items are all sweets. At the top of that list is their world famous sweet potato pancakes. However, their milkshakes are not to be missed either, and now they are offering them with your fav alcohol added to them. The Arcade opened in 1919 and is the oldest on my list as well as a historic landmark. Scenes from Mystery Train, Great Balls of Fire, The Client, The Firm, 21 Grams, Elizabethtown, Walk the Line, and My Blueberry Nights, just to name a few, have all been filmed in the restaurant.

MEMPOPS

If you don’t make it to one of their brick and mortar’s in East Memphis you will surely see their light blue airstream tutting around town. When its hot this sweet treat will certainly hit the spot. Using all fresh fruits and ingredients the flavors are always changing.

Milk Dessert Bar

Last but certainly not least, Milk Dessert Bar has cornered the market in the most amazingly crazy instagramable milk shakes. Not to mention they are delicious. It’s kid friendly environment is both eclectic and inviting. Also service safe-to-eat cookie dough, ice cream, cheesecake, brownies, and pound cake.

Have a sweet Day!

xx

I’ve not experienced Memphis, but I’ve been looking for a new place to explore on vacation. Living in Asheville, it is close enough to drive.
I would love to know where those rainbow milkshakes are from that are in the pictures. My 5 year old would be so excited! Looks big enough to split!
