Charleston Travel Guide

For as long as I can remember Megan and I have talked about wanting to visit Charleston together! We finally did it, and it was everything we ever dreamed of. From the amazing food to the tours we attended, it was hands down one of my favorite trips we have taken together.

Where to stay:

We decided to stay at an Air B&B because most of the hotels were totally booked for the weekend. If you opt to travel to Charleston during tourist season be sure to book a hotel early because they do fill up fast. Our Air B&B was located in Mount Pleasant which was the perfect location. We were close enough to everything but also far enough away that we got to experience the suburban life of Charleston. We also loved walking around this part of town and looking at all the amazing architecture. If you are visiting Charleston I would only recommend staying in this area if you have access to a car, otherwise I would recommend staying closer to the King Street are.

Food:

Tradd’s is a fairly new restaurant in Charleston but certainly not one to look over. The atmosphere makes it the perfect place to grab a couple drinks with friends or for a nice meal. They also serve a brunch that looked absolutely to die for!

Basic Kitchen was hands down my favorite meal during our trip! They also have an amazing patio that is dog friendly. I could have sat out there the whole trip and been totally happy!

Coastal Crust Pizza in the Mount Pleasant area was on my must get list while we were there! I have heard so many amazing things about their pizza and it did not disappoint at all. Mary Kate also got one of their ice cream sandwiches which were just as good as their pizza!

The rooftop patio at the Dewberry Hotel is the perfect spot to sit back with some girlfriends or your significant other and have a couple cocktails. One thing to note is you must make a reservation (they are very picky about this).

Tours:

We decided to go on the Chilling Charleston Ghost Tour. This was such a fun way to end our Saturday night. We learned so much about the oddities of Charleston and some really interesting history like the first female serial killer was from there! This is a must do tour. Next time we will definitely be doing the Haunted Jail Tour!

My favorite tour we did was with Old South Carriage Tours. We were immediately greeted by the most beautiful horses and got to get up close and personal with them!

Fun fact: we learned that a single horse can pull 10,000 pounds! We were mind blown.

Beyond the adorable horses we had a chance to see a lot of Downtown Charleston. Our tour guide took us throughout downtown and taught us so much about the history of the city and the architecture. This would be a perfect tour for anyone visiting. The tour only lasted about a hour and we walked away with so much knowledge about the city.

This time of year the weather was absolutely perfect to walk around explore the city. It did get a little chilly at night, so we had to pack a variety of items. Below is what I packed:

If you have any questions about our Charleston experience feel free to ask them below in the comment section! If you want to see a few other travel guides of some amazing places I’ve been you can read them here: Hudson Valley, Memphis, Disney, and Park City!

Is ubering from Mt. Pleasant an option? We are looking into doing a girls trip the end of May and are trying to figure out where to stay.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THE HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGE TOURS! Horses are forced to toil in all weather extremes, dodge traffic, and pound the pavement all day long. It’s cruel and I’m from Charleston and the locals here are trying to get it banned. But the only thing that will stop the companies is if tourists stop paying for it!
