Tennessee Safari Park

If you are looking for a unique spring/summer activity, holy cow do I have the one for you! (no pun intended… ha) You can travel about an hour outside of Memphis, and basically feel like you are in a safari. Well, to be exact the Tennessee Safari Park.

You exit on 79 right before you get to Jackson, and hang a right about 15 miles into the middle of nowhere. When you feel like you’ve gone too far… boom there it is!

While pulling in you pass roaming peacocks, geese, and various other animals. There are two options for viewing. The 5 mile drive through safari, and then the walk through park that includes a petting zoo.

Mary Kate and I were limited on time so we did the drive through. This was one of the more amazingly bizarre experiences of my life. You roll down your window and up walks a Zebra, then follows a camel. The rules are simple hold your bucket with thumbs in, don’t leave your vehicle, don’t bring in outside food or animals, and don’t pet the animals.

Thank goodness they give you a pamphlet. I saw animals I couldn’t even name. It is absolutely worth the hour drive, and at $14 an adult and $10 a kid its a steal for the value of entertainment.

We only had a little over an hour to drive around, but I have already made plans to head back that way soon. If you’re looking for something to do on a pretty day to get your family or friends out of the house I highly recommend heading to the safari!
